glentaggartextarielThe Carmacoup 2 extension to Glentaggart open cast coal mine is one of many extensions Scottish Coal have applied for and won at Glentaggart over the years, taking it past 10 years of production. This latest application is to mine a further 500,000 tonnes of coal from the Carmacoup area, to the West of Glespin, and between two areas already mined. The site is 44.5ha in size, 8ha of which is outside of the existing site boundary.
