Just days after the announcement that E.ON has shelved its plans for a new power station at Kingsnorth, Dong Energy, Denmark’s national energy company, has pulled out of its joint venture with Peel Energy Ayrshire Power Limited, of which it owned 50%.
Dealing the “clean coal” myth touted by governments, energy and coal mining companies a severe blow, Dong pulled out of another coal fired power station project in Germany and said it would convert two of its coal power stations to biomass, all to reduce CO2 emissions. It is clear that despite its own rhetoric and greenwash, not ever Dong believes Carbon Capture and Storage will reduce CO2 emissions from coal-fired power staions substantially.
It is not yet clear if Peel will follow through with the plan. More information to folow!
